Human Rights & Global Justice

As Canada faces growing global challenges, it is crucial that we remain steadfast in our commitment to defending human rights and global justice. We must prioritize the right to seek asylum, continue reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, and take bold action on climate change and systemic discrimination. We must not allow economic or political pressures to undermine Canada’s legacy as a leader in human rights. It is essential to speak out against violations wherever they occur, including by our closest allies, and hold ourselves accountable to the highest standards of justice and dignity. Together, we can ensure that human rights remain at the forefront of Canada's leadership on the global stage.

Fighting the Rise of Hate

Conservatives are stoking fear and division, targeting 2SLGBTQ+ communities, immigrants, and marginalized groups to push their agenda. A society rooted in fairness and inclusion is one where everyone can thrive. I vouch to advocate for the protections of 2SLBGTQ+ and increased public services at every level of government. It is imperative that we push back against the Conservative fear-mongering with a bold, values-driven defence of inclusion and equity.

On Palestine

Canada continues to sell arms to criminal and oppressive regimes. Canada must lead by example and stand up for peace and justice around the world. We support all ICC and ICJ investigations into war crimes and genocide and would uphold ICC warrants. New Democrats want the safe return of all hostages, peace, and justice for everyone in the region.

Our Plan:

    • Impose a two-way arms embargo on Israel

    • End Canadian involvement in illegal Israeli settlements

    • Address anti-Palestinian racism and protect freedom of expression on Palestine

    • Recognize the State of Palestine

    • Fund Gaza Relief Efforts, including UNRW
