Living Wages, Not Minimum Wages

Do you know the difference between a minimum wage and a living wage?

The minimum wage is the absolute lowest amount of money that an employer can pay you, and in Ontario that’s $17.20 per hour.

However, a living wage is how much you actually need to be making to be able to afford things like food, rent, and transportation in your area.

In the GTA, a living wage is $26.

Minimum wages leave many in poverty. We need to push for policies that reflect the cost of living. No one should work full-time and still not be able to afford rent and groceries.

It’s time to tax the richest 1%, so we can have nice things too.

I am proposing to:

  • End corporate handouts

  • Put in place a progressive tax system

  • Strengthen social safety nets

  • Fight to make it mandatory for all employers to pay their workers a living wage
